What's a Toy Pom actually like?

The Pomeranian was originally a much larger sled dog from the Pomerania region (modern-day Germany/Poland). Queen Victoria fell in love with the breed and started selectively breeding for the smaller 'toy' size we know today. The result is a tiny dog with the brain and bark of a much bigger one — bold, smart, and convinced they're in charge.

Adult size: 18–22 cm tall, 1.5–3 kg. Lifespan: 14–16 years (one of the longest-lived breeds). Coat: thick double coat — needs brushing 3–4 times a week, full groom every 6–8 weeks. Energy: medium — short walks plus indoor play is plenty. Trainability: very high — they're whip-smart but stubborn, food rewards work brilliantly. Watch out for: tracheal collapse (use a harness, never a collar), dental issues, and barking at every leaf that moves.
